Countryfest THANKS
Local Volunteer Groups with Donations
POSTED October 8, 2009
Dauphin's Countryfest is thanking two local volunteer groups for their involvement with the garbage collection and recycling done to clean the site every July. The Lt. Colonel Barker VC Squadron #50 (Air Cadets) and The Dauphin Ochre Band Parents work tirelessly to assist Countryfest in its green initiatives through the Volunteer Incentive Program.
Collectively, the two groups organized 300 volunteers to work almost 3,500 hours over the 9 days during and after the event. One week after Countryfest closed its gates, the Festival site looked as if there had never been 4,000 campers settled in. They manage the entire process and it’s no picnic.
Rain or shine these dedicated volunteers pick garbage and sort through recycling. It should be on the Dirty Jobs television show.
... says Wayne Steiner, Countryfest Director
It’s the dirtiest job at the Festival and we need the public to understand what they go through to earn this money.
More than 12,800 kg of recycling was collected and sorted, then transported to the Parkland Recycling Depot from the Festival site.
The Air Cadets were presented with a cheque for $12,139.00 and the Band Parents received $7,732.00 in exchange for the more than 320,000 cans diverted from the land fill.
Although it has always been a part of the operational procedures onsite, the further development of a Recycling Program was streamlined in 2008. The program includes the reclamation of an unused sewage lagoon on site and the development of a permanent location for the placement of a moveable structure, complete with conveyor, to house the sorting and recycling process.
Multiple groups and organizations in the Parkland volunteer their time and efforts at Dauphin's Countryfest and in turn, benefit from the Volunteer Incentive Program to raise money for their cause. Countryfest would like to thank all volunteers for their work done this year.
Dauphin's Countryfest Donates $400,000 to
Kick-Start Fundraising for New Community Theatre
POSTED October 8, 2009
For 20 years Dauphin's Countryfest’s mandate has been to give back to the community. Continuing this directive the Festival has recently donated $400,000 to the Dauphin Community Cinema project. The gift is being made on behalf of the event’s volunteers and caps off the year’s 20th anniversary celebrations.
In exchange for the donation, the theatre complex will be named the “Countryfest Community Cinema” and the Festival will be allowed use of the facility for events, which can include receptions, film nights or performances by singer/songwriters.
Our 2009 slogan was ‘Our Birthday, Your Party’ and this is a birthday gift that will enable the new theatre to be built and leave a lasting legacy for the community.
... says Countryfest Director Joelle Robinson
Our Festival had a strong year financially, all because of the support of our community, and the Board couldn’t think of a better way to recognize that support. The naming rights that we receive will be a reminder on into the future.
Eric Irwin, Countryfest President stated that this is the largest known gift by an event in the history of Dauphin and continues the tradition whereby Countryfest donated $100,000 to the community pool and $160,000 to the arena.
With all the volunteer management by Directors and all of the volunteer help, sometimes we have money left over after the show and if we can use it to improve the quality of life in the community, it makes all of those volunteer hours all that much more worthwhile.
... says Irwin
We had almost 2,000 volunteers in 2009 stand out in the sun and the rain to put on wristbands, pick garbage, serve drinks and so many other important jobs. Because of that they will now be able to sit inside a state of the art theatre and watch first run movies.
In 2009 Countryfest attracted 14,000 weekend goers, several hundred day pass holders, as well as the volunteers.
Everyone in the community from sponsors to patrons to volunteers pull together to bring A-list stars from Nashville and TV crews from Toronto and it’s all a lot of fun. It’s great publicity for Dauphin, but the Board wants to make sure that there are tangible benefits to the community as well.
... stated Irwin
The after effects of our 20th birthday party will be around for a
long time to come.
